- The world is not gray, so neither should your 3D scenes be. I thought I'd start with an underwhelming scene that has everything except color. Just compare it to its colorful version. Adding simple color, images and animations to your objects is the first step towards visual greatness. Let's add a simple color to some of the elements of our scene. Double click in the material manager to create a new material, and let's name it "helmet." Double click on the material and bring up the material editor. Now, let's turn off reflectance for now, and let's just concentrate on the color channel. Here we can see the background color. First of all, you can see here we have a simple RGB interface. If you want to use a better color chooser, you can go here and activate the enhanced color table. This is my favorite color chooser. If you want this to be your default color chooser, do the following. Go to the preferences. Let's bring it to the middle. Go to the Units tab, and where it says color chooser, go to Cinema 4D and change it from RGB to enhanced color table. Let's close this. And now, every time you bring up your material editor, your color chooser will be this one. Let's select a color. I'm going to make it slightly orange. There you go. And you can see a preview of the color here and here. Let's close it, and let's go and apply it to parts of our helmet. Now, because this is an array generator, I need to twirl it open, turn it off so I can see the original helmet. I'm going to select the helmet. And because in my object manager I can't see which element is exactly selected, but I've selected it in the viewport, what I can do is go to View, scroll to first active. This will open your hierarchy and show you the selected object. Now I can go here and drag this on my helmet. Excellent. If I activate this, now you will see that my helmet has an orange color. Let's create one more color. Double click here. Let's name this TV main. Press Enter to accept the name. Double click. Let's move it to the middle. You can change the name of the material here if you wish. I'll turn off the reflectance, and in the color I'm going to choose a blue color. Close it. And I'm going to go and apply it on my video board. Now it's all blue. Already we see a bit more color in our scene, and it's a bit more pleasant. I can sit here for two hours just looking at this, but I won't. What I would like to do now is add an image in my TV on my screen. Let's double click. Let's call this "TV screen." Double click on the material. And now, after turning off the reflectance, instead of just changing the color here, we're going to do the following. I'm going to go and click on the three dots, or click here, or go here and load image. They all do exactly the same thing. So I'm going to go and select the "who is this" jpeg, open it, and I don't know if you recognize this very good-looking fellow. And what I'm going to do now is drag the material on my TV, and you can see that the TV screen has been highlighted and I've added an image to my television screen. When it comes to loading images, where the image lies on your hard disk makes a difference. Let me double click. Name this "other photo." Double click. Turn this off. Go to the color channel and click on the button, and here we are in some random folder in our hard disk. Now, I'm going to select this and do exactly the same thing as I did before, but now Cinema 4D is going to ask us a question, and it says, "This image is not in the project search path. Do you want to create a copy at the project location?" And I'm going to say no. What you will see here is that we get an absolute path that points to that file, whereas with the previous one, you can see only the name of the file. What is the difference? The difference is that in the folder where our file resides, adding Color 02A, adding Color 02A, there is a tex folder. In that tex folder was the first image. A tex folder inside the root folder of your project is considered a known path, and any images you load from there will have a local path and not an absolute path because Cinema 4D searches in there by default. But if your image resides anywhere else on disk, it gives you the option to copy it in your tex folder. So if we answered the question with yes, then it would make a copy in our tex folder. In my situation, it currently exists here, so I won't do it. So don't be surprised when that question comes up. It's advisable that you work with local paths, unless you have a texture repository somewhere on your disk or somewhere on your network. In that case, you can do the following. Inside Cinema 4D's preferences, you can go to Files and you can set up to 10 paths which can reside either in your hard disk or your network, where Cinema 4D considers them known paths. Any images loaded in any of these paths will be considered local, and you will only see the name of the image here. Let's take a look at a few things we can do with the image. I'm going to close this, and first of all, I want to find where this object is. Again, I can't see it anywhere. I just dragged it from here over here. So you double click on your material, you go to the Assignment tab, and in the Assignment tab, you will see all the objects this material is being applied on. So you can right click here and you can select the object, and automatically in the object manager, Cinema 4D will untwirl any hierarchy and show you the object. Now that we've done that, you can click on the texture tag that has been added to link the object with the material, and you can do one of the following things. In the Tag tab of the texture tag, you can go down to offset V and offset U, length V and length U, tiles, repetitions, and so forth, and you can change things. For example, you can change the offset. You can even animate it. You can change the other offset. Or you can say "I want three by three tiles," and you can move these as well. Or you can say, "I don't want it tiled. I just want one occurrence." You can move it around with these numbers, and if you want, you can add all sorts of repetitions. If you turn on tile, then the repetitions will be on. So you can say one and two. When it's zero, that means infinite tiling. So I can have two by two photographs. I can move them left or right, up and down. So I can place them anywhere on my object. Let's twirl this closed. Let's twirl this as well. And let's move ahead and see our spaceship. It looks kinds of dull now. Well, the good person that modeled this actually has supplied us with textures, which are nothing more than images. We are going to apply them on the spaceship right now. Double click here, double click, turn off reflectance, click on color, and let's go and load from the tex folder from the spaceship the reactor diffuse, and we're going to call this "reactor." Excellent. Double click to create a new material. Automatically, that material is now in the material editor. Turn this off, click here, and let's select the hull diffuse and call this "hull." Press Enter. Then double click to create a third material. We don't need to double click, but I do it out of habit. Turn off the reflectance, go here, and let's load the fan pack. Great. And call it "fan." Press Enter. Now we can close this, and we need to find all these different objects. So go to the spaceship mover, untwirl it, and here we have the hull. Let's drag the hull on this object. Fan pack. Let's go to the fan. Drag it here. And reactor, let's do this. Now the spaceship looks much better, but let me deactivate the camera, click on this and press S to center the selection. And you can see that my materials are a bit blurry. If I render, you can see that they're very crisp, but as far as my preview is concerned, they are a bit blurry. And how can we fix that? Well, let's go to the hull, double click on that material, and let's take a look here. If you go down to the editor, the texture preview size default is a very small default. It's, I think, 250 by 250. But if I turn this to 1024, immediately you will see that the textures become sharper. I can do the same thing for the reactor and Cmd-click on the fan to have them both selected here, and go and change the texture preview size to 1024. And look in the middle. There you go. So now we have a very nice, sharp preview of our image in our viewport. Let's switch back to camera, rewind and press this, and you can see it's much better. Finally, and to close off this chapter, I'm going to show you how to load movies instead of still images. So I'm going to double click. Let's call this "movie." Double click on the material, and we're going to go and deactivate the reflectance. Go to the color channel. And again, the same way, we are going to navigate to the folder that has the movie. Hooked sample mpeg4. The file formats you can load are any file formats that your operating system supports and then some. Pretty much any known file format can be loaded. If it's not, I'll be very surprised. So press Open, and what we are going to do is let's go and find this object again. I think it was in the truss video board main screen. I'm going to delete this material, and I'm going to go and drag the movie on my main screen. Let me close this temporarily. Rewind, play, and you will see there is no preview, although if I render, you will see that there's another frame here. And if I put my play head here and render again, you will see a different frame yet. What's the situation here? Well, it's very simple. Just like with the resolution, if you go to the editor, you can change it so that it animates the preview. Click on this, close it, and now if you rewind and play, you will see your animation playing. The same exact way, instead of loading a movie, we can load a frame sequence. So let me double click, create a new material, call this "sequ" for sequence, in case you didn't realize. And I'm going to activate the luminance channel now just because I can, and add not the movie anymore but the hooked frames. Here is the same movie but in PNG sequence. Select any frame, press Open, and watch this. I'm going to go and get the sequ and put it over this, so it will replace the previous one. You don't have to do that. You can always delete the previous one like I did earlier, but you can do it here so it retains some of the parameters. Now if you look, you will see that it's still. Although in the editor the animation preview is now on, it doesn't move. And the reason is the following. When you're loading frame sequences, Cinema 4D does not know that the frame you loaded is a sequence. You need to click on the icon, go to the Animation tab, and calculate. And you're telling Cinema 4D that this is part of a frame sequence, and now you will see that it's animating properly. One thing you need to know is that generally previews are faster when you're using frame sequences because Cinema 4D doesn't have to decompress the compressed movie frame by frame. So now you know how to make your gray world look colorful and beautiful just by adding a bit of color and some images and movies.
Vamos a duplicar clic.
