Magnetic Crane Rig
 

In this series, Josh Johnson, from http://www.vfxdaily.com walks you through the process of creating a magnetic crane rig. To do this you will learn the basics of setting up a dynamic spline to create the wire that the magnet is attached to. You will then use attractors (particle effectors) to create magnetic fields that affect your rigid body simulation. You will also go over creating some basic Xpresso to help control your animation.
