Model importation (from Solidworks)

Hi everybody,
Does someone know if there is any restriction on the file importation of the model from other software? (in my case is from Solidworks)

And also some assemblies were imported in cinema 4D while other (with less polygon or assembly component) weren’t.

I’m using Cinema 4D Visualize R20.

Thank you in advance.

Hi Mr Sassi,
thankyou for your reply. Unfortunately, I can’t send you the entire assembly of our machine because it contains reserved information.

I can send you a smaller assembly that has the same issue than the bigger one! (is in the dropbox folder)

Anyway, I’ve found an alternative solution: move the entire assembly inside a new assembly e dissolve the sub-assembly. In this way, it looks functioning.

Hi Nicolò,

I’m Glad you found the set up that works.

Thanks for the file, I can see the problem. I get the Unable to open file Alerts. Besides, other files open nicely.
With the non working file, I would highly suggest to contact the Solidworks support. This seems to be a user error.

https://www.solidworks.com/sw/support/customer-software-support.htm

I edited the support suggestion from Maxon to Solidworks, as the files indicate that the problem is based on a pre-Cinema 4D problem.

All the best

Thank you for the checking! Later, when I’ll have more time, I’ll write to them!

Anyway, I’ve found another problem..if Solidworks is opened isn’t possible to import the file!
Does this happen to someone other?

Hi Nicolò,

Please make certain that the file size is reflecting the content. As well as that you use the saved files instead of the temp back up files (the one have a tilde ~ in front of the name)

The file ~$MS_R_STOOL FOR LOW RAIL.SLDASM is only 4KB large, and it won’t open. (SLDASM)
All files that I believe should be assembled with this container are also only 4KB. (SLDPRT)

The file MS_R_STOOL FOR LOW RAIL.SLDASM is 349 KB (SLDASM)
All (sub-) files which are open with this file directly are much larger than 4KB, more in the MB range. (SLDPRT)

Please note that Cinema 4D is able to open (SLDASM) with all the parts, or just a single part (SLDPRT)

Since one of the sub-files was larger in the first group you had sent, I was under the impression that you can use it. But since you mentioned that you can’t open it while Solidworks is open, I got the impression that you use the wrong files. Please check with the Solidworks support, as all non-tilde files open nicely in Cinema 4D. At this point, I’m convinced that the Maxon Support is not the way to go.

All the best
