Prioritize Joint Object as a Viewport Selection

Hi,

Whenever a joint and polygon overlaps, it’s always the polygon that gets selected. I understand there is a feature where you can disable polygon selection altogether but it gets cumbersome when you hop back and forth between joint and polygon overlaps. The viewport ray selection (RMB on the viewport) does not seem to work.

I initially, it wasn’t possible but when I check the Character Object in Adjust Mode.
There are these dots (for joint placement) that get prioritized when selecting at the viewport.

So, is there a way to Prioritize Joint Object as a Viewport Selection when they are overlapping?

Thank you for looking at the problem.

Hi Ben,

When I stay in the Move Tool, I have zero problems with the adjustment dots. The Live Selection Tool on the other hand provides the behavior prioritize the closest object.

As the manual states:
Adjust Tab

Activating the Adjust tab switches the display and interaction of the Character object, allowing you to easily adjust the positions of components within the rig to match a specific mesh. In Adjust mode, the display of the Character object in the view is simplified and items that can be adjusted are displayed as large circular handles. You can manipulate these handles in the same way as regular objects using the Move and Rotate tools.

Alternatives:

Ray Selection, please try a double click. Works here.

Besides, the short cut N~L brings you in Skeleton mode and the shortcut N~H or N~I brings you back.

The polygon object could be on a Layer and lock it.

Sorry, there is no selection priority.

All the best

Hi Dr. Sassi,

Thanks for the confirmation. I’ll just make do what is available at the moment.

Ben,

The Move tool or the Rotation tool select the Adjust dots even there is a Polygon object closer to the camera.

So, I do not confirm here something, I mentioned only that there is no further option to prioritize. Use the Move or Rotation tool, and it is working just fine.

The Ray Selection works fine here as well.

If you think there is something not working as it should, please contact the support.

Sorry for the confusion. I’m not using the “Adjust Dots”. I just want to know if the feature of the adjust dots which I believe a viewport priority selection is available in other objects such as joint objects.

Again, you confirmed that it is not possible.

Yes, this I can confirm, Ben, I have no knowledge of a priority setting for layered or obscured objects.

That would be something for the Suggestion form over at Maxon. Thanks for considering it.

All the best
