Hi iacdxb,
In the Attribute Manager> Mode. Modeling, you can check the mesh, and there is an option to select complex poles, which means, points with more than four edges. There you can define five or more edges and then Select those.
Since you have no four edges in the example, it should be easy to select all complex poles (Cmd Key and add the next Selection) then use the U~I (Invert Selection and you get the three edge-points.

The first one selects the points before cloning, and the second one by using an image.
