Partial dead keyboard input

Hi,

I posted this a couple of hours ago but I don’t see my post so probably something went wrong.

I R20 on Mac SO X High Sierra when I work in Cinema at some point all entry fields in dialogs or object manager go unresponsive. I cannot enter anymore values via the keyboard or delete things via the backspace key while working. That’s a pretty unworkable situation and I hope somebody can help me trying to fix this issue. Or is this a known bug?

Albert

Are you using a wireless keyboard?  Also, when you’re unable to enter anything, can you switch to another application via the keyboard (Command-tab)?  If you switch to another application via the mouse (e.g. click on ‘TextEdit’ in the Dock), can you type into that application?

I’ve had situations where my wireless keyboard loses its connection.  I turn the keyboard power switch off, then back on and it always re-connects.  Then, I’m able to type again.

If you’re not using a wireless keyboard and/or the typing of text only fails within Cinema 4D, you probably need to reach out to support.  Although, I’ve not seen that issue myself.

Hi Albert,

I assume you have the latest version of Cinema 4D. Not that I was able to find this issue anywhere mentioned for older versions.

The key question, are these fields grayed out or present them self normal?

Is there anything that happens right before it turns to the problem?
Are you able to use the little triangles near the parameter field?
Can you call up a fresh scene and it happens there then already?
If you can save, close and open the scene file, does it persist in the file.

Has the drive you are working on all the needed permissions?

Yes, as Ricky Sharp mentions, check with the support, if you have that problem, save the file.

The only problem that I can remember is based on Google’s Chrome. Is that app running in the background?

Another typically suggestion is, to dis-connect all cables, replace the only needed input devices and start in safe mode.

Sorry about your troubles.

All the best

Hi,

@Ricky I have a wired keyboard. The R19 release works fine, just like all my previous releases. This is the first time I have ever encountered this problem and it’s also local to R209. Everything else works just fine.

@Sassi, Please find enclosed a screenshot…
The yellow zones are areas where keyboard input by typing or pressing keys no longer works. Typing into any of the fields yields no result at all.

Pressing for example in the 3D view a key to focus the camera on an active object no longer works. Pressing keys to manipulate the rotate scale and translate does not work. However, when pressing the number 1, 2 and 3 key while click dragging does allow me to navigate the 3D view.

The key question, are these fields grayed out or present them self normal?
The fields are normal and I can click drag to select, but typing has no effect…

Is there anything that happens right before it turns to the problem?
Not that I am aware of…

Are you able to use the little triangles near the parameter field?
I can twirl them open and close, yes

Can you call up a fresh scene and it happens there then already?
It happens permanently during the session until I close Cinema…

If you can save, close and open the scene file, does it persist in the file.
I can save via keyboard and the problem is gone when closed and when I rastart Cinema. Not when I only close a scene and reopen. Once the problem starts, only quitting C4D temporarily solves the problem…

Has the drive you are working on all the needed permissions?
Yes it has… everything else works just fine…

No it’s not running… I mainly use safari and Firefox…

Hi Albert,

Should I send you an upload link for the screenshot?

It feels like a problem with your hard drive, perhaps just the wake up mode, is the disk running?

Anyway, I’m starting guessing …, and that is typically the time to stop wasting anyones time.
I think at that point the support is the way to go. I’m not supposed to give this kind of support here.

Fingers crossed the support will have this cleared for you in no time.
Cheers

I stand corrected… now not even the 3D hotkeys to navigate the view work anymore?! Getting into trouble here :-(

And now the reverse?! 3D view not responding but the dialog boxes are…

I am on a Mac and I never put it to sleep. Once I finish for the day it gets shut down… during day I only switch off the display…

How can I get in touch with support?

Reason I came to Cineversity was that I could not find a simple “talk to us| button on the Maxon website… but maybe my chaos prevented me from seeing clearly…

Albert, since it changes, something might be outside the app.

I had a lot of trouble since Sierra with some drives, they fall to sleep and since they had their own sleep mode, only a restart was able to get back. After updating the OS and setting the drives software to no-sleep, things are working fine here.

Just in case

I know that the support people are highly motivated. If it is possible to solve they will do all they can to make it happen.

I really wish you a fast fix of this, I certainly know how it feels to get stopped in the flow!

My best wishes
