Peeling Effect

Hello

I’m doing some R&D/Brainstorming on the best way to create a “peeling” effect on a piece of geometry.  The idea would be to select a group of polygons on some geometry and then “peel it off” so to speak.
I was thinking of making a selection, splitting it, then using the bend deformer, but it doesn’t give a nice coiling as peeling does.  Then I was thinking about joints.  What are some other approaches?
No project file as I’m just brainstorming

Thanks!

Hi Alex,

Sorry for the late reply, but I was presenting “Essential Camera Mapping Techniques” at NAB-NYC this last week.

There are certainly many ways to do that, but without knowing the object, I would certainly go with Joints.

Have a look here: clip-one minute long

A little variation with MoGraph:

Let me know if there is anything else, I’m happy to look into it.

Cheers
