Hi, after installing C4D R20 on my Mac, I keep getting the attached window popup every time I start C4D. It doesn’t matter how many times I have clicked Allow, it just keeps coming. I have tried reinstalling C4D, but it keeps happening. Anyone else experience this and know how to fix?

Hi Matt,

I’m not supposed to give technical support. However it feels more like something outside of Cinema 4D. Except, the C4D> Preferences> Communication> User participation might be checked on.

Please contact the support:

All the best

Thanks for your help Dr. Sassi. I checked that setting, and unfortunately is turned off already. I did reach out to Maxon support and they suggested trying to lock the preferences after making changes. Unfortunately that didn’t work either, so that is why I tried the forums. I’m kind of surprised no one else has run into this, but maybe most users are on PC?

Thanks for the feedback, Matt.

You would know if you have a firewall enabled, right?

Nasty little things like that are taken the fun out of the game, right? I understand.

It reminds me on the alerts from “Little Snitch”, a Mac app that allows to control the network content.

Edit: I have searched this a little bit more, see below/ edit

Fingers crossed that you can find a solution!

Cheers

Okay so even going through that forum, there wasn’t much that seemed to fix the issue.
It’s looking like I’ll just have to deal with this annoyance every time I open C4D :(

Thanks again for your help Dr. Sassi!

Matt, was your firewall active?

What happened after restart when it was set to off.

Or

Where you able to put the C4D into the list they mentioned?

I deleted it above, since I’m not supposed to do support work here, and I can’t take any responsibility for anything given here: have you started in safe mode? (Hold down shift while the Mac starts?)

Check with a different computer and network.

How about press “deny”, will that settle it?

Cheers

Yeah, I’ve still got my firewall on. I haven’t changed any of the settings. R19 opens fine and doesn’t pop up any dialogs.
I think I’ve done just about everything I can think of at this point :(
Thinking when MacOS Majave comes out at the end of the month, I’ll just do a fresh install and see if that fixes it.

Matt, I checked this in detail.

In the moment I allow the Firewall to work, I have the same message See image. The Application needs to be pulled in the list (if “Allow” doesn’t put it there) that you can get Mac> Preferences> Security> Firewall: Options.

If that doesn’t work for you, my current idea would be to check your permissions. Perhaps the Firewall is not allowed to “write this down”. I had that problem often with Syntheyes in the past. I guess the manual list entry will work, as it needs an admin password first.

After I switched the firewall off, the alert was gone.

My best wishes.

Yeah, I’ve tried adding Cinema 4D into the list manually as well, but I still get the dialog.

Since upgrading to MacOS High Sierra, it moved everything over to Apple File System (AFS). When trying to use Disk Utility to check the disk for errors, there is no more repair permissions option.
Is there another way to check permissions under High Sierra?

Thanks,
Matt

I just found this article, and tried it’s solution, but still not working :(

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203538

So you think I should just turn the Firewall off? Probably doesn’t do much anyway, I suppose haha.

Matt,

Edit, your second post is exactly what works for me. I just read your second post /edit

You can’t drag the app icon into the list? In a way that it stays there?

What I do normally in such cases, select the drive where the files that are not being written, based on rights, and use CMD+I to get the information about it.

On the bottom: Sharing and Permissions. There I use the option to really give any file and folder in the drive the permission. “System” should do.

Again, I’m not supposed to give tech support here, so no guarantee nor damage insurance.

Get in contact with Apple and have them perhaps taking over your computer to fix that, they can do it remotely, if they have no other idea.

Cheers
