Hello Dr. Sassi,
Hello Everyone,

I have another question, this time about sweep nurbs. I was trying many different ways but couldn’t get it done the way O want it. I am felling a bit like a rookie! smile

I am trying to build a suction hose usung only one sweep nurb (please refer to the image with the blue hose).
Couldnt get it done by now. I was trying different ways:
1) Using to Sweep nurbs: 1 Helix Sweep to get the spiral around the tube (hose) and one for the actual suction hose (Screenshot2).
2) Furthermore I modeled one segment and cloned it with a Mograph Cloner, then used a spline effector to clone it alone a spline.

Both ways are working. Finally I want to animate this suction hose but unfortunately the two sweep nurbs (first try) are
not corresponding “as one” when I animate them and the cloned segments (second try) are builing litte gabs when animating the spline (Spline Effector).

I also tried to model only one Sweep Nurb to get a “stable” result but couldnt get the “spiral helix form” with it. I tried to edit the scale and rotation of the sweep but it only affects the whole Sweep.

Can I get a little hint how to get a suction hose with only one sweep nurb?

Thanks again for your help!
Cheers
Frank

Hi Frank,

Please have a look at the screen capture below, as usual, you might download the clip for a better viewing experience.

The idea is to have a procedural to create these, adjustable. When you are fine with the results, use a Current State To Object. Note that I do not use a short cut to place the SSD over the object, to avoid the calculation of larger settings than I need. I like it more that way.

The size is of course over the top with 100cm, but if you go very small, check with the Optimize>(cogwheel setting)> Tolerance, so you catch really only double points.

Do you need to see the wire and the inside of the hose? If so Create a shape for the inside, as far as you can see in to it, and connect this, perhaps some PolygonPen work is needed.

All the best

P.S.: here is a variation to the one above, same procedure, but for the start and end the Cloner uses a different object.

Hi Dr. Sassi,

Thank you very much. As always you are a great help and good for new solutions.
I will work myself through your demofiles.

I don’t know if the bend deformer will give me the result i was looking for. I am trying to animate the suction hose in the hand of a
person and though that maybe a spline would be much easier to animate the hose in the scene.
But I will check your files out right away.

Thanks again!!
Best,
Frank

You’re very welcome, Frank! Thanks for taking the time.

The Bend Deformer was used only for “mesh-checking” purposes, not meant as a suggestion.

Here is a little screen capture about the file in post #2, and the results (with some fine-tuning after the capture, mainly the wire inside)
