I am helping a friend trying to figure out how to go about animating a tire tread coming apart. More specifically from 0:15 - 0:30 in this animation: https://youtu.be/07PJ1QiszI0?t=15s

What would be the best course to take? I was thinking animating the splines of a loft nurb? But that’s more PLA type stuff. Is there an easier way that I’m not thinking of?

Thanks!
Matt

Hi Matt,

Here is a little sketch, with just two deformers.

Scene file:
https://www.amazon.com/clouddrive/share/eqEgGuXVIz7hN3uBdYwzYqX4KFMbd3zxcJdRbYs7ZwG

The layers lift while going “flat” in the clip you shared, that could be achieved as well with Falloff animation, then with the Deformer Bend.2, or with FFD. (FreeFormDeformer)

Alternative to this would be a PoseMorph for example.

Other parts, like the wire-base could be based on a flat polygon, deformed or PoseMorphed,  as base for a MoGraph Object to place clones on.

There are certainly other ways.

All the best

You’re very welcome, Matt.

My definition of creativity is, that the results of play, experimentation as well as any failure goes into a large library. Then combination of parts of that library will be tested. wink That’s all, and to never think “I know that”, instead, “What happens if…”. That is in a nut-shell how I would describe it. Perhaps, letting go of being critical and not following rules is a prerequisite of course.

Enjoy
