Custom camera composition lines

Hi guys,
I was wondering if there is a way to customize the camera composition function!

Of course there is a lot of possibilities already (golden spiral, grid lines, etc), but lets say I wanne be able to have a special composition grid with a random ratio lets say of 7 to 4,54 with diagonals in some of the grid squares for example smile Or even if you wanne divide your frame by a percentage (you need a vertical line at 77,6% of the frame…) something unusual like this..smile
It would be the easiest to have a slot to link an image or vectors to have that…but since we dont, how could I achieve that?

-> Background Object with this Image isnt working since its behind everything and will be covered by objects
-> Plane as child of the camera with the grid as texture applied to it with transparency isnt working either, since it distracts the navigation in the scene.
The closest I can come up with is to draw it in illustrator bring the lines into c4d and have the splines as a child of the camera…..but is this really handy/a good workflow..:D?!

How would you achieve that?
Maybe its an idea for a future feature update? smile

Thanks anyway smile
Cheers

Hi Remo_G,

Certainly every project has new challenges. To showcase what can be done, I have updated an old XPresso set up. It has now a horizontal as well as a vertical line. You might add more. The basic idea of the set up is given in the “cube” and this cube will “travel” with the camera, and follow the view-angle.

There is a “Click—>User Data” null object, click and check out the Attribute Manager.

But yes, please submit any needs and suggestion to MAXON directly, thank you:

Hello Dr Sassi,

Appreciate you sharing the file. How would I go about adding more Spline V lines with limited Xpresso knowledge?

Thanks,
Alistair

Hi Alistar,

Just copy the whole group, and paste it (do not drag-cmd-copy it)
Switch off the two Extrude.

I haven’t tested it long enough, but I think that should be the safest way while avoiding XPresso.

Please check out the Compositing Options for the Camera.

All the best

Hello.

Thanks for the quick reply.

The screenshot link doesn’t appear to work, can you try reposting please?

Thanks
Alistair

Thanks for the explainer. I’m going to see about editing the Xpresso script as I would like a cleaner workflow. Are you ok with me sharing the file with another user?

Thanks again

Hi alistair,

Please look at the image; this is all you need to create a new line (Spline adjustment). …plus a new UserData.
If you tell me how many you need, I could set this up for you.

The core idea was, I guess 15 years ago, to create a cube that covers the Frustum of the camera. The four points that are in front of the camera define then anything visible to the camera.

You can share this specific file with your friend, as long as it is not sold to him wink

As a side note, you might check out the options of the Watermark
https://help.maxon.net/r23/en-us/Default.htm#html/VPWATERMARK.html
Limitation: In the editor’s view, the editor should stay in the final render ratio. A PNG with transparency will do, as long as you require fixed lines.

All the best
