How do I create a Domemaster with the spherical settings of CD4 R19?

I´m new to Cinema, coming from Lightwave 3D. R19 now has a spherical camera which is great for 360 VR, but I want to create a domemaster (8192x8192) directly out of C4D, like I do with LW 3D for ages. But it seems, that even with the FoV Preview set to “Dom” (German version, guess it´s “Dome” in english) it still creates a 2:1 equi, which is not what I need.

Any way to have a real fulldomecamera natively in R19 or do I have to stay with LW3D, which does it out of the box?

Hi Sascha,

I saw your reply in the Tutorial section,

May I assume that this has answered the question above?

All the best

Yes, it does.

I still hope to be able to create domemasters directly out of C4D like I do with LW3D anyway. Maybe R20? wink

Yes, I understand the double work stuff only too well, Sascha.

A one way step I’m aware of, with the options to adjust the “distortion” of the projection accordingly is presented in the clip below, please find in the same link a scene file of it.
The dome could have less segments, which allows to have some of the “rings” scaled and use a SSD 9SubSurfaceDevision) to get the needed precision in the mesh. I prefer the simpler version as below. Let me know if there is something you miss. As I wrote in the other thread, the UV data is the key here.

(Perhaps you get the script mentioned, or find/create an action script in Photoshop to do that [Polar Coordinates]).

About the LW idea, use it if that works better for you, of course.

If you like to voice your need directly, please use the Suggestion form, that is the direct link: (Here the German version Vorschläge)

Thanks, that way delivers the result, but the workflow is awful. I´ve send a suggestion via the link you posted.

For the time being I´ll use the VR-camera for a little 360-degree-video-project. Works perfectly well. I just need a heavy extension to my renderfarm… wink
