Precision (2D) scaling

Hello,

A lot of jobs I work on require scaling ground plans to their specified measurements, my usual method is to bring in the ground plan, nest it under a null (A) positioned at the start point of a known measurement, then make another null (B), move it along the measurement axis until is at the specified measurement distance, then scale the ground plan along both axes until the target distance point is aligned with null B.

This is all fine, but it got me thinking, is there a way to snap to this B point, I know how to right click the axis to move and snap to another point, but when it comes to even, 2D scaling, I don’t know if this is possible. I find it hard to explain better, so I have made a little gif to try and demonstrate what I mean:

Hi NNenov,

Thanks for the illustration link.

If that is your preferred way, then my suggestion would be to use the Axis Extension.

https://help.maxon.net/us/#TOOLMOVE

Go to Axis Move

The first part is to just click (not to hold down) with the CMD/CTRL + RMC combination, and find the initial position to start from, then drag while holding down, to the final point.

All the best

Hi Dr.Sassi,

I think that is the tool I was trying to use, but it seems to only work along one axis, in the gif I use it to snap along one axis, but I want to keep the aspect ratio

Yes, there was a little hint in the GIF, but it wasn’t really clear to me.

No idea how to get both axis with this method to work.

Perhaps, when this is something you have to do so often, then this might work.

Set up an XPresso, where the adjusted scale axis is fed into the (then) dependent axis.
You need to stay in Object (vs Model) mode for this.

The XPresso Tag goes to the Null. The Null is set to relative (Reference)in both nodes.

In the Object Manager> File> Save Tag Preset you can store it and Load it when needed.

All the best

Great! You’re right, its well worth making an xpresso tag for it. Thanks!

You’re welcome, NNenov.

My best wishes for your projects.

P.S.:
Here is perhaps a moe direct way, I like to share it just to get this thread more complete.
