I’m working through the tutorial series on rigging a character.

On video 5 -  https://www.cineversity.com/vidplaylist/character_rigging_in_r12/character_rigging_in_r12_aligning_joints

The instructor uses the Ctrl key and rotation tool to only rotate a single bone at the top of the chain. In version 16 the Ctrl hot key duplicates the chain.

If I set up the initial orientation using the axis tool will this produce the same result?

Hi marcpurcell,

Please check out the “Help” button close to the specific tutorial. This will open a specific new thread in the Tutorial Discussion. This keeps things organized. The Q&A Forum is not for tutorial based questions. Thanks for understanding this little administrative request. It allows others to find things more quickly.

If I get your question correctly, and about 2:45 [min:sec] into the tutorial, I would use the L key to adjust the “root” orientation. “Enable Axis modification Tool”, which is the icon on the left in the standard view, arrow up and arrow to the right.

Sorry about the extra time that it caused you. I hope it will work for you.

All the best
