pyrocluster puff as asteroid dust cloud

Hello.

I am trying to wrap an asteroid in a soft, subtle dust cloud.

I’m thinking I’d use a Pyrocluster puff attached to a single particle.

I’m using the standard particle emitter, set to a single particle that has a very long lifetime.

I have no age effects on it, so the puff theoretically shouldn’t change.

I’m using a Pyrocluster puff, so that the asteroid casts a shadow on it. (otherwise I’d use a light with visible light)

The problem:

The particle/puff doesn’t move with the asteroid.

How can I attach it to the slowly turning asteroid?

One note: I do not know Espresso, so if there’s a solution that doesn’t require nodes, that would make life much easier.

If though, nodes are the only answer, please talk to me like I’m a 6 year-old. 😉

Thanks in advance!

Tom

Hi Tom,

To my knowledge there is not direct [PSR] influence to standard particles possible. A decade ago or so I vaguely remember that people did something based on C.O.F.F.E.E.

The shadow part of the requirements eliminates other options, like using the Fog channel in a standard material.

OK, Nodes are not your thing, I got that. So I will not request you to do anything other than to click on the XPresso Tag to get the Attribute>User Data> Link [Planet-Object], so you can fill in your own object. The rotation of the Pyro Clusters are not just a plug an play, so I don’t even start with any further details here.

I have marked the chapters so you know what is show in the clip (no sound)

You can Merge the whole file into your scene, or just copy and paste things over. If you have any trouble, please let me know and I give you an upload link for your file, so far I got it it seems that you can’t share it public-ally.

All the best

Wow.

Thank you for the quick reply, project file, and guide QT.

I’ve only been on Cineversity for a short time, but it’s already paying off!

I should be good now . . . .
