disable automatic addition of frame number to rendered file names

I’ve got a scene set up where each frame is a different camera, and I’ve set up tokens to use the camera name as the file name, so I don’t need the frame number in the file name too, its creating really long messy file names. Not too big a deal of course, was just wondering if there’s a way to disable this.

Hi NNeneov,

If you set up the Take System so it can use a different camera for each new render and stay on frame zero, then it might work.

I’m not aware of an option to suppress frame numbers, but perhaps check with the support.

If I have to bach conform file names I use the Graphic Converter, I guess Automator (Mac) will do the same, and there are certainly a lot of little helper apps who have the ability to batch convert names.

All the best

Thanks for the feedback, NNenov.

If I find out more, I will add it to this thread.

Hey!

This was posted a couple of years ago so maybe no one will see this, but I’m wondering if there’s been any updates to this issue?

I have the same problem when rendering stills from simulations (on any frame except for frame 0, on this frame cinema doesn’t add anything).

Even with the $cv001 for increments, cinema auto adds whatever frame number I’m on after it, and when I’m doing multiple renders on the same frame (this happens often after tweaking materials lighting etc) it asks if I want to overwrite the file constantly. This basically makes the tokens useless since I have to manually change the name for each render anyways which is a shame. I love tokens for animations and it would be so awesome if this could be fixed!

Cheers,
Oscar

Hi Oscar,

Yes, five and a half years. Even though I posted the support link to it, I can’t find any requests at all. If you like to avoid the overwrite, put time-based data into the name (Day, Hour, Minute, etc.): Filename_$YY_$MM_$DD_$hh_$mm_$ss.exr

Share your ideas, has its own entry here:

Hi!

Thanks for the tip, I guess that’s the best solution for now! I submitted a ticket to Maxon as well, hopefully this can be fixed with a minor update. It seems like such a small thing to have a name preset that doesn’t contain any numbers.

Cheers,
Oscar
