Orientation of clones on deformed surface

Hello

I have a series of clones that are cloned in “object” mode to a plane that is being deformed by a Displace Deformer.
All looks good, except that the clones don’t have any of the rotation of the polygons as they move with the displacement.  I turned the “Align Clone” option off, because I would like the clones to have a “soft” rotation according to the movement of the normals on the displaced plane.
I assume I have to do this with Xpresso?

Thanks!

Hi Alex,

Switching this option off, disables the rotation at all. No idea what I miss.

Perhaps place a Target-Effector into the Cloner, set to Next Node, but my exploration with your description might not lead to anything.

If I get this right, you would like to have a polygon rotation in XPresso. But Align Clones does this already.

To get softer you could set the same displaced set up and mix those values, via Inheritance or in XPresso.

Enjoy your weekend

Ha, yes, my Align Clone was wonky because I had set a transform>rotation in the cloner and completely forgot about it…
Yeah the Target Effector with Next Node is a great solution too!

Thanks Sassi!
