Glass Bottle Label - Color on Outside, White on Inside?

Hi,

I have a bottle with a green circle on the front and a red circle on the back. So far, so good. I’m trying to get it so the “inside” of the circles are white. Imagine they’re stickers that you placed onto the bottle, and the back of the stickers are white. When looking through the bottle, the circle on the opposite side should appear white.

Here is a link to download the scene file.

I tried duplicating the circle material’s tag, changing the color to white while maintaining the same alpha, and setting the Side to “Back”, but that didn’t work. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi intaglio,

Thanks for the file.

The problem would be easily solvable, if the bottle could be made editable, i.e., polygons.

With the Lathe based set up, the labels will appear as well in the inside. The “Front” and “Back” projection will always lead to the result that the colors are visible, and not the white part of it.
If the Lathe set up is needed, I have created in the past a second Lathe set up, just a tiny bit larger than the bottle, and placed the labels on this.

But a polygon based version is perhaps simpler to manage.
While using a Selection that is limited to the outside, the option is given to place the label only outside. Then the “Front” and “Back” is working.

BTW, I ddi not got the texture that you used (Save with Assets would be the way to go)

All the best

P.S.: here is the file with an Lathe set-up for the label.
I just used the spline, reduced it and moved it a little bit to the left. This could be done also with the Mesh>Spline>Outline and use only a portion of that, by deleting or with the aid of MoSpline.

02
You might see that the Material set up is based on the Normal Shader, to separate front and back. (Set to “Both” in the texture tag!)
03
I used the MoSpline, and a simple Displacement in the material to get it in front of the bottle

Both files are in the post above and updated.

Thanks for the different approaches! I’m sure I can find a method that will work for me.

You’re very welcome, intaglio!

If you use the versions 02 or 03, then keep the Lathe settings the same.

Let me know if there is anything else.

My best wishes for the project.
