Modelling and Texturing Trouble

Hi everyone!

I’m having some issue with modelling in C4D. I’d be really grateful for any advice on the way I’m going about this.

I’m modelling a logo.
I’ve extruded from the splines of the original logo (.ai file) I’ve gone through the process of making it editable and merging them together. However I still have a problem, whenever I try to move a face or vertices or model it further… it just breaks apart. I’ve searched online and followed multiple “spline extrusion polygon” tutorials but none seem to fix this problem.

I would also like to texture this banner with the dark green colour over the bottom half. I’ve tried switching around the ways it’s mapped and played with the offsets but it didn’t give the effect I need. I tried to knife onto the front polygon face in an attempt to cut it into two but it would only give me a straight edge.

I’m using the Arnold renderer. I’ve attached some images that should help.

Thanks!
Have a great day.

Hi ABV&BYND;

I have send you an upload link so I can see your file. (CV PM Private Message)

From what I can see in your image, I would use a Connect Object, but without a scene file, this would be just guessing and not really my taste.

All the best

Thanks for the file, ABV&BYND;

The GreenBanner.2 (Polygon) is based on an Extrude, and I assume the problem. Select the GreenBanner.2 and use the Main Menu>Mesh>Commands>Optimize. [U~O or U~ Shift-O].

This should solve the problem. With this step, you merge all parts, as double [multiple] points become single points.
If that problem would happen with the Extrude, then the Connect object would be the way to go.

I do not have the Arnold Render installed. I had also not the texture here. Please let me know if the “Optimize” fixed this. Otherwise, it is set to Flat as a projection Method. Perhaps check out if it works better with a proper UV(W) set up. (Select the polygons and Object Manager>Tags>Generate UVW Coordinates.

My best wishes with the project.

Thank you so much!:)
That fixed the modelling issue.
Do you have a recommendation for texturing it the 2 separate colours? I used a gradient ramp but cant get it to sit correctly like that curve. I tried to separate the polygon by knifing a curve in the middle but it only appears in straight lines.

Hi ABV&BYND;

Thanks for the feedback.

The Texture is set to Frontal. You will never have a lot of luck with this one. It is like a layer on your screen, it doesn’t really care about anything in the scene. If will of course show up on objects that you have supplied with it.
Frontal is like a camera mapping without camera (well it has one but one has no control about it.)

Use Flat and from there produce an UVW definition of it, that should make it safe. As mentioned aboveFlat do the trick, but is works with the axis, not with polygons positions.

If you have set it to Flat, and use the Object Manager>Tag>Fit To Object, it should align with the Arrow.
I installed a demo of Arnold and the Gradient is set to two colors. So I assume the Arrow is correct and the banner is not. With the steps above it should work. As a rule of thumb, avoid Frontal in pretty much all cases.

I have made a longer tutorial series about texture projections, in which I go through all projections-methodes, and even if they are older, nothing has changed since.

All the best
