Hi Dr. Sassi, how are you? I have this issue-I want to extrude the “body” of this object, as if it is a half of a tennis ball, with these little tubes growing out of it-I do not want the tubes as “deep” as the “tennis ball=as you can see my polygons are ” breaking at the edges, pleas tell mw what I am doing wrong, thxhttps://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/31514862/modeling-problem.c4d

Hi Craig,

I’m fine, thanks, I hope you are doing fine as well.

It looks like that you had a flat polygon object, then extruded it twice BUT each time with the “Create Caps” on.

I flipped the normals here to outside, in the images, which one looks like your result, left or right?

How much do you want to “move”?

Two things: Extrude—Groups or

Normal Move (perhaps both a little)

Let us go from there.

P.S.: I hope this one minute movie clip will show the steps.

You can download the clip so you can simpler start and stop it. Amazon’s video player is not so great…

Let me know if that worked for you :o)

Craig,

There are certainly several ways to do it. Even the Cloth Surface [NURBS] would do the trick.

I have linked to a one minute movie clip showing one way: Using the Normal Move to “scale” one copy up and one down. In this way none of the geometries get too much problems. If you keep the initial two objects, changes are simpler later, e.g., using the Connect Object rather than the final “connect” command.

I hope that works for you and thanks for the sketch, very helpful. Let me know if you need anything else!

My best wishes.
