Sweep Nurbs/MoGraph Tracer

Hi Cineversity, I’ve run into a problem.

I have a spline that is actually (similar to the helix shape) 5 splines stacked vertically.

This was created using a null, put into MoGraph Cloner, use the MoGraph Tracer to create splines, make Tracer editable.

I am trying to use the Sweep Nurbs Start/End growth and have splines grow all at the same rate. Sweep Nurbs is rendering 1 spline at a time.

Tried “Connect”, it didn’t seem to work.

Any advice would be welcomed.

Thanks!

Hi TCG,

I’m not certain if I can spot the problem without the scene file. Please make a copy and delete anything but the problem.

I’m happy to have a look into it!

All the best

Thanks Dr. Sassi,

I have attached the file.

There is one Null group labeled original (contains the tracer not made editable, no sweep nurbs)

2nd Null group - I made Tracer editable, using the spline in sweep nurbs. I set 2 keyframes for end growth so you can see, sweep nurbs “sweeps” 1 spline at a time. I’d like it to sweep all 5 splines equally.

Thanks for your help!

Steve

Could you please check—there is no file.

If the Zip file gives you a MIME Type error, perhaps you have access to Drop-box or something similar.

Obviously there is a problem to get the file. So, I prepared a file to have a discussion base.

I guess Sweep.0 or Sweep.1 is the way is works right now.

If you have a look to Sweep.2. IS it rendering all? If you select all five MoSplines at once, you can set up the Start/End Growth in one step as well.

Please let me know what I miss or what should work differently.

Not really knowing what your problem is:
—that the Sweep can address only one segment at the time, or
—if the Sweep shows all segments in the Editor view, but renders only one (which would be a case for the support of course), or
—something else…

here is an alternative. See attachment.

Have a great weekend

Sassi

P.S.: and of course—instead of a Cylinder, a Sweep [NURBS] works fine as well. If you like to animate the Sweep inside of this set up: Set Start to 0% and End to 100%, then go to the Spline Wrap and check the “Fix Bounding Box” to on. This must be done with the 0/100 setting and the Profile of the Sweep at its largest. If that is set, you can animate the Start and End of the Sweep as well of the Spline Wrap, what ever makes the most sense for you.
