Custom Folders for Presets, Plugins and Scripts via Environment Variables

This is a really cool trick….just a little unclear here.

There is the “plugins” folder in preferences, and the “plugins” folder in the application directory. Which one is this pointing to?

Seems when I copy all plugins from both into this new directory, some won’t work.

maybe in the text of the Cineversity page it could be really specific as to which each Environment variable is referencing/connecting.

thanks

Hi Ehmie,

Yes, creating content as clear as possible is in all our interest, and certainly our target.

If I got the content correctly, for either win or mac, he had set up folders outside of any default folders the application (C4D) would have set initially.
At 04:50 [min:sec] this is stressed by writing and comment: “Resources in C4D Application and Prefs Folder will also be loaded”.

Why plug-ins, which worked before and stopped working by moving them, is not to my knowledge, perhaps the license key breaks by just moving them around (wild guess, I admit).
Perhaps Rick will jump in here, and share some insights.

All the best

The problem is some plugins (Forester… possibly Cycles4d, etc) cannot be installed in either folder. They must be in one, and not the other. (im on WIN10)

Hello!
I’m just about to install C4D r19

I followed this tutorial, copied my plugins and scripts over, but..

What is this presets folder exactly? And where is it located normally?

I have
object presets ( example)
Parameter defaults (example)
Render settings presets (there are two types of render settings presets, I think)
UI Layouts
Are any of these counted as part of the presets folder, and are all of them transferable to the new installation of r19?

Thanks!

Hi Nick,

As I wrote, and I can rely only on the tutorial, this allows for an Individual folder (or folders), set up by you.

Sorry, I don’t understand.. What I meant is that I don’t understand what the presets folder is, where it is normally located and what it contains, as there are many types of preset types/categories in Cinema 4D

Hi Nick,

The two places where those content is by default:

a) open the Preferences, [CMD+E] Edit>Preferences, and in the lower left corner of the panel, you will find a button: Open Preference Folder…

b) got to the MAXON folder that contains your application. There is another collection of folders.

First of all: This is an awesome tip and thanks ever so much for sharing. I was looking for this a long time.

However, what I don’t understand is why Maxon don’t make this customizable within the preferences? So many of today’s tools are customizable to allow for all kinds of settings and work environments. I already filed a feature request at Maxon (e.g. for dropbox, an awesome place to store preset libraries).

Maybe if we all filed FRs? ; )

Hi andi_urra,

To suggest something, you need or find useful, to Maxon is always a good idea.

Just in case someone new to this doesn’t know the option:

Thank you.
