TP-emitter for vertex map?

Hello from Switzerland

I tried to emit thinking particles from a animated vertex map. I was not abel to work it out.
In the attached file, I would like the ball to emit dust particles only in the parts, where the velocity-vertex-map is close to white… when the ball stops, emission should stop too.
The P MatterWaves emitter in my solution does not work. Thank’s for suggestions!

Hi highspeedhenry,

I have send an upload link via Cineversity PM. Sorry about the extra work.

Talk to you soon.

Hello dottore
file is uploaded…
@U

PS
How can I make the green particles stick to the ball?

Mille Grazie, Henri!

(Did you try to upload the file as c4d here in the forum, if so, that is the reason why it didn’t worked, use a zipped version instead)

Please have a look at this file

Yes, I started over, and I think it is doable in a much simpler way (especially the PStorm alignment is very simplified), and no Weigh Map needed. However, in case you need the information/animation of the Vertex Tag, it is included.

The dust starts after each bounce, when it loosen the “dirt” of the ball, and when the ball comes to rest, it stops. I have introduce a PDeflector as well, as the ball would push the dust out of the way of course. You can delete this if it isn’t needed.

The Range Mapper will give an huge amount of adjustment, especially with the spline interface.

Let me know if there is any question.

All the best.

P.S.: the file _01 from above had some kind of “sonar-emitter-pattern”.

If the (PStorm-) distance variation is fine with you (the easiest fix of that problem AFAIK), this might look much better:

The orientation for the PStorm, I thought to NOT use a longer matrix/vector calculation for that, so I searched for a much simpler solution this time. Why not use a MoGraph Matrix object for that?

So much simpler and on top of that, it allows even to mess even more with other MoGraph options, since the Matrix Object is already in the Pipeline.

Cheers!

Hello again
I could not sleep well… too many particles in my head…
When I saw your solution this morning, I was so impressed! It will take days to understand it in details…
It is always a pleasure to see, how pros reflect!
Mille grazie

Yes these “pesty” particles in the night wink

Thanks for the nice and kind feedback, very much appreciated, Henri!

Fa niente! grin

PS yes… first I tried to upload a .c4d file > pressing submit, it just kills the text and no warning :-(
then I had the idea to zip the file… same experience :-(

Sorry Henri!

For any forum, social media, etc, that I use, before I press the send button I use the “cmd+a then cmd+c” routine, since I do so, I haven’t lost a text.

If the zip isn’t working, I can always create an upload for you on dropbox, no problem. Just let me know.

All the best

P.S.: …yes, another file. Orient the Emitter on a single point of an object, would be the short description for it.
I waited with this one, as it is not really simple. The Matrix Object (as shown above) does this already for you, but in case there is the need to do that completely in XPresso, here you go.

Perhaps there is something simpler, but that is not to my knowledge.

Note that the rotation of the Sphere is possible, and the “alignment of both Cones stays stable. Both? Yes, the file contains two ways, just to give some options into the mix.

Enjoy

Ufff… you want to test me, or just kill me?
... want sleep well again… the particles in my head will be mixed up by matrix math…
I do my best to enjoy grin

Hi Henri,

Yes, I’m that mean, ruining your whole weekend, by just leaving this in the forum wink

.

Please ignore it, this is more to have this thread complete. The first file worked without, nicely, I liked the simplicity of it, but it could have been a nudge better.  I posted it that way, remembering a long discussion about “Normal-Direction” and XPresso in (?) 2005 or so. I checked via Google if there are more answers these days. Nope. However, your reaction showed me that I was right to leave just a hint in the initial file, and not more. Thanks for being so open, this helps a lot. My target is to get everyone using C4D with ease of course.

The MoGraph Matrix Object (see above) does the “Normal” direction calculation internally for you nearly automatically, in a much simpler and more powerful way. Perhaps a good way to do it, as the Matrix Object allows for so much more, and much more intuitively than nodes.

However, there are certainly some artists who like “hard core” XPresso, and since this wasn’t discussed anywhere else noe here so far, I dared to do so.

Have a good night rest, and yes ENJOY!

My best wishes.

Me again…
I really enjoy your solutions and can understand most parts of them… still one question: what is the little cube inside the ball intended for?
saluti

Hi Henri,

The Sphere had its axis out of center, I assumed on purpose. So, I used a little object [cube in this case], as child to have an object close to the spheres center again, and with it the information I was after.

All the best
