Hi Dr. Sassi, how are you,?- is it possible make a “soft selection tag”, meaning soft edges, to capture a texture?-what I’d like to do, not sure if it is possible, on a small glass slide, isolate a circular section, and in that selection, reflect an image, using a composite tag, with “seen by camera unchecked”, so it shows in reflection, but not in scene,? is this clear to you, otherwise, I can create a jpeg, thank you in advance, Craig

Thanks, Craig, I’m fine, I hope you are doing fine as well.

Here is an example file, which hopefully is a representation of your target.

Scene file:

I have introduced a red Plane as well, which should be reflected on both.

Render it to the picture viewer. Now go to the Compositing Tag and uncheck the “Seen by Refraction” as well, render again to the Picture Viewer. The last iteration is perhaps what you are after. This little drill should show the problems of filtering stuff and how easily things can slip through, as the first rendering shows the reflection of things that were visible through the transparence of the plane. Check also the Exclude tab of the Compositing Tag.

All the best

Hi, oh “crafty one” ; )- so, the secret seems to be , using a vertex map in reflectance/ layer/color/? I KNEW that if there is a way to achieve this, you’re the go-too guy-yes this is great, thanks for another problem solved, i do appreciate it, Best, Craig

Thanks a lot, Craig.

I’m certain that I have replied on Aug 15, but somehow, … no idea.

Sorry about that, I certainly pressed the Submit button, but not the “not secure …” OK alert.

I hope the project worked out nicely.

Cheers
