Character Builder Character Template

Hi All,

I’m creating a custom Character template using Character builder. I used the following tutorial to help me set this up: https://app.pluralsight.com/library/courses/reusing-custom-rigs-char-component-cinema-4d-694/table-of-contents

I notice that symmetry does not work in adjust mode. I also am having trouble adjusting my arms. I should be able to move the root shoulder and end of the shoulders and have the rest of the arm move with it. I’m not sure if there is an issue with the hierarchy of my rig or if I screwed up some of the adjustment rules in my character component tag. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thank you,
Robby

It looks like there was a hierarchy issue. My arm is adjusting properly now. I am still having issues with symmetry in adjust mode though.

Hi Robby,

I have no access to the material from Pluralsight. So, I’m not really sure what to do, missing the ideas and information of this material.

IF I get your question correctly, perhaps this tutorial will help:
https://www.cineversity.com/vidplaytut/creating_a_custom_template_part_13

Please note that Bret Bays was the lead in developing this part of Cinema 4D and you get first hand information of the (by now) two oscar winning artist.

Edit: I went through the file, for some parts I really have no idea why it is set up in the way, e.g., Nulls are way below the rig or most joints are not lined up, etc.
Another tip, in Bret’s series (part 16 around 06:30) he talks about naming conversions and that it is crucial. Please check your file about it in detail.
While building a rig, I would suggest to go after each new Component set-up in “check-mode”. Which means, to save and test the progress so far.
Since I have very little knowledge about your specific targets in the rig, as it is a 3rd party tutorial, I leave it here.
To showcase how easily this function is disturbed, the “leg settings” have no replace rule[R_>L_]
