Strange Object Tracking Issue

Hi,
I must be doing something weird.  I was following the Object Tracking tutorial with the footage from Hollywood Camera Work.  The track, while not perfect, seems to be pretty tight when I preview it in the Cinema 4D window.

But when it renders, it’s wildly off…completely different from the preview

I’m also getting weird grey bars in my render (above and below) as you’ll see in the linked video.  It makes me think I’ve done something wrong with the frame settings, and I’m wondering if that’s why the track is so wildly different.

I’ve attached a link to a quicktime movie of the preview vs the render, and I’ve also attached the c4d file (without the actual footage) in case it helps diagnose what I’ve done wrong.

Thank you in advance for any help!

Project file attacked.
Best,
Biagio

Hi Biagio,

The file is not atached, should I send you an upload link, in the morning?

My first impressionis, the timing is off. It looks like tracked correctly, but the footage vs 3D is out of synch.

Of course, I will explore your file in detail.

My best wishes

Thanks you so much, Dr. Sassi!  Not sure why my file didn’t attach.  I’m going to try to attach it again now.  If it doesn’t work perhaps I can upload it to the link you mention. Trying it here, now.

It happens lately that the file-upload is super picky, sorry about that , Biagio.

What I can see is, that the Render Settings shows 25 fps and the Project Settings 30.
The footage is 30 fps. It is 1920 x 1080, squeezed to 1280x1080.

Please reload the footage into the new material and have a look. Name the png sequence folder into tex and place it close to the scene file, it should connect already.

I have set also, in the material the “Animation-Tab” for this sequence to “exact frame” and “calculate”.

If there is anything else, please let me know. (I rendered it with these settings one time through, and nothing gray showed up. Please try the new file.

My best wishes

P.S.: since this is a tutorial based question, I will change the headline and move it into the tutorial forum tomorrow. (It’s midnight here and I call it a day ;o)

Thank you, Dr. Sassi! I don’t know how I missed the frame rate issue.  Much appreciated and hope I didn’t keep you up too late!
All the best,
Biagio
