BP UV Edit - Can not select different object for editing after editing the first

I have an issue with BP UV Editing and not sure what I am doing wrong.

If I have more than one object in my scene in BP - UV Edit which ever object I first select to edit its UV’s will get “stuck” as the selection and BP will not let me select another object’s UVs, unless I either delete the object I was editing or close the document and re-open it. Is this supposed to be normal? I have attached a simple scene file with two planes. Once I select one of them to edit I can find no way to select the other plane for editing without closing and reopening the file.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks
Tom

Hi Tom,

Thanks for the file, very much appreciated.

Please have a look at the screen capture below, if you repeat as I did, do you run into trouble?
https://www.amazon.com/clouddrive/share/MNEOY7XhhpiRjyRJlktYL1M9JmE6Os9iqjaadKGKKQ5
(Model mode works as well)
I can select one after the other object, in UV-Polygon edit mode or in UV-Point edit mode. As you can see, I can’t replicate the problem, what do I miss?
Let me know what is different to yours, I’m happy to have a look in the morning into it of course.

Have a great start into your week.

Hi Dr. Sassi

I can not do what you are doing in the screen capture in BP UV Edit, but I can in model mode. I will upload a screen capture of the behavior I see shortly.

Thanks
Tom

Hi Tom,

Thanks for the reply. Just a precaution, to not waste your time:
Perhaps the fastest way would be with the support
https://www.maxon.net/en-us/support/how-can-we-help/

But yes, I will have a look at your screen capture, if you need an upload link, please let me know.

Cheers

OK, I found the problem…

I am aligning the UV of multiple 3D objects to the same texture. So I selected “Locks Texture” in the Texture View / Texture menu to stop it from switching to the empty canvas every time I switched between the 3D objects. But this locks the selected objects UV to the Texture View panel. You can select a different 3D object in the Content Browser or 3D View (or even change Textures in the panel) but the original object UV remains the only one select-able.

What is really confusing is if you create a new file and the Texture Locked enabled file is still opened in the background the Texture panel remains locked, it will let you select the UV of the first 3D object you select in the new file, but then locks to that one. Because I still had my original file open in the background C4D was showing this behavior in every new document I created.

Similar problem with the Attributes panel, if I lock the Attribute panel in one file and then create a new file the Attributes panel remains locked and will not display Attributes for any object in the new file, it is just blank.

Should this be the correct behavior in C4D?

I’m on R20.057 (mac).

Thanks
Tom

Tom,

I understand what you describe above. The lock Texture should lock it for all objects that share the same single texture, as the Single Material Mode suggest to share a texture. However, the UV(W) tag is not exclusively bound to this Single Material Mode agreement. But think of other shared textures from other channels. It can be quite a complex investigation of what is where and used by… etc.
So, there is perhaps the reason to keep the Lock-Texture mode per single object only and ignore the shared texture as the connecting element.

Yes, like the Lock on the Attribute Manager, it is for the Object. Especially when you select several objects at once, and then lock it. It keeps the number of objects. Which would be expected to be the same for the BP-UV Edit options, while locking the Texture.

The way to work with the given options is:  If you have a single Texture that you would like to lock, do it. It will stick with the current UV Tag (and with it stick to the object). It will not switch anymore. Keep the lock, but go into the UV editor view, in the menu>UV Mesh>UV Tag> (chose from the list)

Of course, I might miss something (I always assume that hence why I like to dig deeper, but am I always digging deep enough?)
One way would be to voice your needs in a Suggestion
https://www.maxon.net/en-us/support/suggestions/
Or just get in touch with the support.
But of course, if there is anything else that I have answered or what wasn’t discussed so far, please let me know, I’m happy to look into it.

ENJOY
