Visible light + Hair?

Hello

I’m having a strange issue with hair and volumetric or visible light in the standard renderer.  If I have hair on a character with volumetric light the hair becomes somewhat invisible.  If I turn of visible light it comes back to normal.
Is there some kind of incompatibility with the two?

Thanks!

Hi Alex,

Please: a scene file. Images do not help as much as you might think.

I use only Amazon and DropBox since a while, I’m not in the mood for experimentations anymore. If you need an upload link, please check your Private Message.

How about setting it to Polygons?

Hi Sassi

I think you are right, it is the standard renderer + hair + volumetrics that doesn’t work.  With Physical it is fine.  By setting as polygons do you mean rendering as Generate/Type/Sweep or something like that?

Thanks Alex, for the file, I will close the upload link.

I got three warnings about missing plug ins. 2 material and cycles. So I might not see what you see.

Yes, that the one: The Hair option is under Hair> Attribute Manager> Guides> Type: Square.

I checked and perhaps the Shader Backlight (Luminance channel, extra material) might be fast enough for an animation. Subsurface Scattering for a still is cool, but way too slow.
The Hair material will provide the Thickness and other shape informations if needed.
(However, you might switch away from Soft Shadow. Perhaps over the past decade+ I have enough complained about, that I don’t have to start here over, it is just a fake.)

All the best
