Locking Mograph results into a model?

I’m not even sure if the terminolgy is correct but here goes…

I have created a concave shape into which i need a tack of spheres filling it. Using a cloner and rigid body tags, I have animated a large number of spheres and eventaully they settle into the position i need.

Problem is - i don’t want animation, I just need the spheres to remain in the end state. I also need to be able to grab the entire cup/sphere model and rotate it 90 degrees so its on its edge, without anything falling out.  basically I am recreating a product packaging model, which has a clear moulded window contain spheroid shapes.

the other problem is in order to fill the shape, i have a load of extra unwanted spheres that have fallen away but which really need to be deleted.

How do I achieve this?  I tried Baking the Mograph but that just seems to bake the animation.  I tried to convert the clone object to plygons but that reverted the spheres back to there initial start position (even after i set the dynamics initial state to the end frame of the animation.

I’m sure i have seen this done in the past, but cannot remember how it was done!

thanks
Adam

Hi Adam,

My suggestion would be to try to keep all these Spheres as a Clone, so one can render those as Instances. Which might reduce the render time a lot.

To get there in a simple way, I would create a polygons for each sphere and use those polygons as “Information source. (Set them later to not seen Editor/render.)

Once that information is stored, all the dynamic set up is not longer needed.

Here is a quick screen capture of the process.

This new cloner can be made editable at any time, without change. Please note as well, that each little polygon can be now selected and moved or rotated for a detailed art-directing.

Enjoy your project.

P.S.: If you have just spheres, then the polygon approach could be also replaced by a MoGraph Tracer that holds the original Cloner, and is set to “Connect All Objects”. This Tracer (or a copy) can be made editable and used like the polygons suggested in post #1. The Cloner in Object mode is then set to Vertices.
