Hi,

I was trying a pack top side folding but not any satisfied point… may be its called complex modeling.
I saw some similar packs from browser library… but when folding/bending… all goes wrong.

Anyone can help me how to model this….?

Thanks.

Hi iacdxb,

I’m not certain at this point if this is a question about modeling alone or modeling with animation.

Would you please let me know if you are interested in just the box or do you want to show how it folds as well.

All the best

hi,

It is about modeling only, no animation.

I don’t need to show how it folds. Just interested in box.

Regards.

Thanks for clearing this, iacdxb.

Please have a look at the clip below. I just take a few polygons and connect those. Then you might apply some bevels to the connecting edges and extrude with caps, or Cloth, etc.

After that, move some points to fit it to the cube based model. The upper glue strip is perhaps just an extrude.

I have pushed them further apart then perhaps needed, for demo purposes.

As a side note, I did package design (from start to finish) for three years while staying in Munich with my company, and I loved to take the reference packages apart to have the flat card-board, if I had to update an older design. It often helped to understand the object, in terms of folding and size-logic/dependencies.

All the best

P.S.: I would have loved to see IMG_9006 fully open, deep into the middle or center fold. So I did a little dummy, see image, I hope that resembles yours.

P.S.: … as usual, it was very tempting to animate this, at least as a sketch.
The little paper model needed to go into C4D, now my head is free again.
There is certainly room for improvement, but that is not the point here.

For anyone without access to Character tools, I have included a PLA version in the file.

ENJOY.

Thanks Dr. Sassi.

This animated shape I did in my early stage of this model. Thanks for your folding trick.
Last day I did not get enough time but I tried… I stuck specifically with its folding thickness and upper glue area and all point merges at tope.

Today I will give try again….!

Thanks.

You’re very welcome, iacdxb!

The material thickness is with so many tight foldings certainly a little bit tricky.

Please have a look at this short screen capture, I get better results after beveling the edges. I demo here a 45º version and a round version.

Perhaps sometimes it needs to be done in steps. The material dimensions in the capture are way too thick, again, just to make a point.

The glue part, to me it feels like an edge extrude.
At this time, I’m not clear if the model has to be like it will in a market shelf. Most of the foldings will be invisible.

My best wishes

Thanks for that.
Yes… till the reach to upper extrude part… a bit tricky.
Today I will buy the product again and will open its folding and glue parts and then I will give try (by keeping in mind your folding trick), I hope it will be easier then…!

Thanks.

Hi iacdxb,

Always keep in mind what you need to see, anything else might not matter for visualization.

Of course if you like to model it for the purpose of exploring, take small parts that show up difficult and model them separately to stay focused on one problem at the time.

The beveling should follow the idea that the radius of the bevel needs to be larger if the material goes to the inside, and smaller if it extrudes to the outside.

All the best
