Mixing keyframe animation with motion clips via Animation layers, not working?

Hello

I am working with motion clips and wanted to manually move the arm at certain points.  I know I can turn off the arm in a motion clip but that looses all clip motion for that arm which I dont want.  I want to blend my own key frame animation.

I do the natural thing and added animation layer.  I set a key frame for shoulder, arm messes up.  I try all kinds of mixing modes, but no go.  I then try to add a animation layer to just the arm, this works a bit better but can also go crazy at times.  I wish to merge the layers together but of course one layer is on the hips, another is on the arm.  When I apply the merge the arm animation is lost.  I could bake all motion clips to key frames, add a animation layer then animate, that works but then iv lost the motion clip set up.  It would take too long to split the keyframes back into motion clips.  Iv made this video that shows the issues, and in case its been a while since you have used motion clip system iv added a short refresher at end of video question.  Another issue not shown in video is not matter what method I use the mixing strength just makes the limbs shrink?

Hi Dan,

Adding key frames in the standard way defeats the idea and usability of the Animation Clip System.
Since one of the main advantages is to move clips with a lot of keys at once, it would be a bad advice to go then to a different timeline and move all the added extra keyframes to stay in sync seems kind of a source for trouble. Hence why it is set per Priorities to let the Animation-Clips be the “last word”.

There are two ways to get specific animations for a certain part.
•To copy the clip and open the clip to edit those keyframes. Since it is a copy, it can be replaced if one likes to get back.
•The more suggested way is to add on top of the layers an “absolute” layer, as discussed here:

Before you invest too much time, I would suggest to go through all tutorials about Animations Clips. It is worth the time to really get the idea about the system, and it options, e.g., to adjust the blend of clips.

All the best
