scaling down irregular rectangular splines globally on local axis

Hello:

I have a bunch of rectangular splines laid out in a grid that I want to globally(all at once) expand by 3 cm’s. How do I select all and scale up by 3 cm’s on each local axis.

I know in position you can type in num + 3 so I figure there is one for scale or units?

Thanks in advance -

-T

Hi -T,

Are those Rectangular Splines Primitives or editable Splines? A Primitive could be set up, while all are selected with an x+value for the width or height.

A global scale, even around each individual Axis, while each has a different size to begin with, can’t be scaled with the same added amount. Scale works like a multiplier of the existent size.

Please share a few splines in an example scene file.

All the best

Thank you for your prompt response.

They are editable splines and I can go through each one in x and y and type in +3 and I get a good result but I cant seem to do this globally.

see attached - thanks Sassi

Thanks for the file, -T!

Here is one workflow, and perhaps some steps can be left out. I’m not certain if you need all Extrude/Splines units as single files or a one Extrude/Spline overall. Anyway, here is your file back with added 3cm.

A short screen-capture of my steps is here as well

Scene file, one minute clip:

(Alternative: The “Caps + Fillets” could do that trick, if the frames could be later made editable, and front and back could be separately point selected and set to z-size = zero)

My best wishes for your project

P.S.: I had to move some Spline Point Sequences up, but after that, the adjustment was easy.

Please have a look at this file:
https://www.amazon.com/clouddrive/share/E5Xk5DNk8ZsXl6b1lKX4FpwuJ9TuZhxkQc5x5lSym6Y

The Formula Effector is set to Deform, and it recognize a Point as clone. In that way, the Formula Effector works only on one of the four points (0-3)
The adjustment can be done now very quickly, if you have to adjust this again or even many times, I would feed the number into the Formula via XPresso.

Cheers

Thanks Sassi:

I think both solutions provide great insight, much appreciated. The formula effector is pure math magic.

You’re very welcome, -T!

Just to share that XPresso idea for the second set up as well: (as well as some others)

Scene file
https://www.amazon.com/clouddrive/share/emgBhlcBMgJ9n9DGnexgVoLgyJUWzFJAroXclRugmBK

Or perhaps a version with just one Extrude.
https://www.amazon.com/clouddrive/share/RQ4oGuUL9MNIuirQa209KBcsqHnV9Fv1RTp8kMhStYc

… and for simplicity, the ready to use Polygon version
https://www.amazon.com/clouddrive/share/czw5gOkMfwHXWrNlyYVklCZqpX0s5YSI0DYJZcvsoq5

… XPresso as central core can’t be ignored wink This needs a give group and a receive group:

Axis are not transferred, so one can move them freely, but with two extra nodes that can be done.

All the best
