Unique Images On Different Sides of Each Cloner Cube

I’ve attached a screenshot of a video I’ve seen a few times.  I have tried to figure out how to attach unique jpegs/textures to each side of a cloned cube but haven’t figured it out still.  You can see the charts/graphs on various sides of each cube.  Not certain how to create something like this. I’ve tried a few things but have come up short. If anyone can point me in the right direction with a tutorial or advice. Sorry for the poor quality of the picture.

thank you!

Hi Hedgeye Studio,

Is that then six images on the cube and each clone looks the same, or is it a larger number of images and each cube has six of them on it?

If you have an example file (as small as possible to communicate the idea, no 3rd party stuff of extra objects in it), we might find the right set up for you faster.

All the best

Hi, that is a 3x3x3 cloned cube.  Here’s another screenshot.  It has a random or plain effector on it as it opens up, spins, etc.  It has a metal texture on each of the 27 cubes and some have a chart or another graphical elements on various sides. I can send a video if this screenshot doesn’t help.  Sorry for the poor quality.

Thanks for the image, Hedgeye Studio, but it is really hard to see.

OK, let’s try this in an other way. I have set up an example for you. Is that close to your target?

Cloner.1 could be a Matrix Object, perhaps less intuitive, but faster: see file …11.c4d

Cheers.

P.S.: since I did not found a file in the Drop-Box, here is another file, based on your addition information.

Here is a file with 3x3 cubes, all “faces” have a different image (well it would require 162 images, but the example has 91, I guess it shows the idea)

The reflection is made more visible via bump, to differentiate it from the background.

The MoGraph Multi shader can be used of course in Color channel as well.

The Random Effector is placed in the first cloner, so each following stage has that information.

The Plain Effector pushes just the “faces” (the polygon object/clone) away from the cube, to separate the (surface/texture) information. Switch it off to see the resulting problem. This could be handled with a Polygon, editable, and the axis moves.

Of course the simplest way, not per se the fastest, is via polygon selections. …_31.c4d

A very short way is this one, but typically the Formula Effector stops people. So, the Formula just gives each single polygon object a slight different brightness value. For that to work, the Cloner Object needs to be set Transform>Color>Black

As usual, I try to show several options, to allow for exploration and judging what would be the best in a given situation, or just – what feels better. OI hope it allows for more freedom, instead of sharing one set up and call it a day.

Let me know if you miss something, I’m happy to look into it.

All the best

Thank you Dr. Sassi,

I will review these scene files and get back to you if I can’t figure something out.
