Hi,
is it possible to get the .c4d files? So it’s much easier to understand. I tried to rebuild the Wooden Plank Stuff but it doesn’t work. So I cannot concentrate myself on the new things ‘cause I have problems to build the scene itself.

Great Job! Greetings fron Germany,-
Jens

Probably pretty easy but I can’t get it (and there were no example files to look at included with his R19/voronoi video)

In the video there is a Voronoi object building on one piece at a time, and the pieces ease in. It seem he is using a push apart effector, a plain effector, and some other thing call “smoothstepweighting”.

Any tips on replicating this set-up?

Mike

Hi Mike,

If there is a question about a tutorial, please use the “?  Help” button. Is it this tutorial:
https://www.cineversity.com/vidplaytut/new_in_cinema_4d_r19_voronoi_fracturing_improvements
If so, he discusses several set ups, which one are you interested in? Perhaps share a time of that take in the tutorial. Thanks.
I’m not certain what tutorial you have in mind, there is no title with a / in the middle. Please just use that specific button, all will be set up and others can find it as well. Thank you.

All the best

Sorry - it is Donovan’s “New in Cinema 4D R19: Join Fragments, Roughen Edges, Splinter Wood, and more with Voronoi Fracture”

https://www.cineversity.com/vidplaytut/new_in_cinema_4d_r19_voronoi_fracturing_improvements

Specifically what happens around 6:45 and on - he does not explain how the motion is achieved.

I did try the “?” button only to find another user had asked for example files months ago and there was never any response to his request so I thought I start a new topic.

Thanks!

Perhaps you have seen this series already:

Thanks for clearing it, Mike.  The organization here is established to help finding questions and answers to the tutorials.

I have no idea what set up Donovan has established, but here is my take on it.

The Formula has a “If the ID number is greater than the f value then …” code in the formula, and the formula is given the “weight” into the mix. The Push Apart Effector has no weight and uses so the information from the Fomula.
This would just jump, so the Delay Effector set to Blend, smoothes this movement.

Scene file:

In the same way (as with the Formula) a Plain or any other Effector could work. Also, to set up the Sorting has a use impact with the Formula Effector for example.

If there is anything else, just ask here in this thread, I’m happy to look into it.

All the best

Hi Jens,

Sorry that you didn’t got any response so far.
I do not have the files, but I can look into a specific set up if needed.

Here are two files, the …31.c4d is more an exploration with particles, whereby the …41.c4d scene file is more something for an Cartoon-noir wink

Thanks for your reply and looking in to the file.

Would it be possible to do this without the formula effector? I know the formula effector is very powerful, but I use C4D because you can do so much without a degree in math or coding (which I do not have), and I need to understand how/why my set-ups do what they do so I can refine and revise them for my clients.

If what Donovan is doing is not possible without the formula effector that is fine, I’ll just accept that - but just in case there is another approach I’d be very curious to understand. The object manager in the tutorial does not include the formula effector so maybe it is possible?

Thanks again,

Mike

Yes, any Effector will do, Mike.

Please have a look to this very simple file.
Scene file:
https://www.amazon.com/clouddrive/share/mB5SezgJ4NuKhkDStXbagzDfZIbFlwcb9DRTG03KucW
As mentioned above the sorting is important.

Based on the previous file, that uses more options, here the replacement of the Formula Effector with the Plain Effector.
Scene file:
https://www.amazon.com/clouddrive/share/WdOGTiIr4k1UU7mBkfM7jFDEfhcG6S9spE9WleM3pQH

A more complex set up, where the Weight that controls the Push Apart Effector, is created by and “external” Matrix/Plain Effector couple.
Scene File:
https://www.amazon.com/clouddrive/share/TnT1TUR4BTMTzRLDcrAwTHuNDgHNpmaJf1Twd3LSAmQ

In short, the way to operate the fracture effect and its animation is based on standard MoGraph options and can be seen as simple or more complex in the three files here. I assume there are a tremendous amount of other options and solutions already or soon in use.

If you want to do something different or if there is any other question not directly related to the tutorial, please feel free to ask as well in the Q&A. Of course any related follow up question to the tutorial is welcome here in this thread.

I’m happy to look into it!

All the best

P.S.: beyond to do it with an Effector, there is also the “Force”. For a different approach, please check the file below

Hi Sassi,

in the example in min 6:30, how did the make the tetris shapes?

It would be great that in the future videos there where also the project files, to learn faster and don´t have you ask so many questions.
Thank you very much for your time.

Hi Anunciada,

Thanks for the precise time point.

Here is an example:

Yes, I love the clarity of files. As you might notice, I always ask for files and not for images, or anything else, except, what story one likes to tell. Anyway, I’m certainly happy to support file sharing. I hope we can do better in the future. Even I like questions.
(A particular plus point is given, by not providing them, we can provide updated files based on interest. Which means, in some cases, newer options can be shared.)

Let me know if there is any question.

My best wishes, stay safe, stay healthy.
