Need suggestion on Knife Tools tutorial

So, although I’ve been using C4D for some time, I still have not spent much time on modeling.

The intro of the multi-knife options since r18 have only compounded my confusion. I’ve tried some of these tutorials on Cineversity, but I haven’t found anything that will take into the beginner basics of these new tools. I’ve hardly ever used the Knife tool in the past, so I need something from the ground up.

Any recommendations that will get me to the basics? These new tools are really confusing.

Hi markfug,

I assume you have seen these three, whereby the third one has only a shot “chapter” about it.

https://www.cineversity.com/vidplaytut/insert_symmetrical_loops_in_polygon_models_c4d_loop_cut_tool
https://www.cineversity.com/vidplaytut/n-gons_knife_cutting_tools_and_how_to_avoid_triangulation_issues

… 24:11-25:59: Knife - Line Cut, Plane Cut, Loop Cut

Are those the ones which requires too much pre-knowledge to feel comfortable? Thanks in advance for your input. I hope your shared perspective will help to shape something more to your linking.

My best wishes

That first one you listed is the one I tried first. The operations he was performing were not reproducible for me. The other 2 are very brief. Isn’t there anything more through from an elementary stand point. If I just picked up C4D for the first time today (R19); no experience, where would you send someone to learn the knife tools from the beginning?

Thank you very much for your feedback, markfug.

Yes, the “What’s new in …” targets certainly not the beginner as main audience, I agree.

Typically I would assume that the Quick Start Guide was used before, but I checked, no mentioning of the Knife Tool there.

Another source are the Quick Tips to get up to speed, but my impression is, that a certain knowledge is presumed there as well.

More practically is the one from Patrick:

The tutorial content that is missing is a series which discusses the area of use, then each single function/option or parameter and last but not least variations and alternatives. I guess that would be the description of the material that you are looking for.

Of course, if there is a problem you like to solve right now, the Q&A forum is always open.

Thanks again and,

all the best
