Hello!
I’m exporting a a cloth simulation with tear effect as an alembic file.
I’m trying to render with Octane but I have no success on render motion blur. It seems like the alembic has no vertex velocity info. I believe because of the tearing effect?. Is it possible to export vertex velocity with alembic file of a cloth sim from C4D?.
Thank you!
José

Hi José,

I wasn’t able to find anything. I have no hardware that supports Octance, so I can only guess, which feels really professional, sorry about that.

The only moment something was ringing promising was “Subframe Exporting” or “Vertex Colors” (The latter would perhaps need a plug in for that). Again, no idea if there is a possibility at all. Perhaps the Support has a workaround or idea, I don’t see one currently.

While searching, I only found this: Not what you ask for, as your question indicated the Standalone Render.

All the best

Hey Dr. Sassi
Thank you for your reply. It seams that the subframe motion blur is a nice workaround when having Motion Blur problems with octane.
I’ll have to investigate further though to export vertex velocity within the alembic file. I guess it might be an issue with the tearing effect, not sure.
THank you!
Thanks
José

Thanks a lot, José, for your reply.

You might suggest that to MAXON.
https://www.maxon.net/en-us/support/suggestions/

The Cloth based effect of tearing is not producing new Geometry, as in parts torn apart, for that the Cloth Objects needs to be added, otherwise: Polygons along the “split” will grow larger. So, I guess it needs more attention than just applying a vector to a given point. But I’m confident that there is a solution, but it needs some more people to point to that need, so developing time is assigned to this.

I saw the X-Particles tear effect in a preview, but I have not worked with it nor to see if there is maybe a better solution, given Alembic export as target. It seems to work differently, and duplicate edges, which should give a point velocity data, if available.

My best wishes
