C4D is suddenly very slow

Hello,

All of a sudden C4D R19 has been running very slow for me on very simple scenes and I’m not sure why. I have R18 and it runs just fine and is highly responsive. In R19 it slows down to a crawl primarily when creating and editing textures. At times I will barely be able to move the material editors window around due to the lag. This has never happened before, it usually works fine.

My system is showing that when R19 slows down the CPU load spikes to 99%. I am using an i7-6950X CPU and recently installed Geforce 1080Ti GPU using OpenGL. Viewport Anti-Aliasing is set to none. The GPU shows no heavy use, and all the system temperatures (GPU and CPU )are fine. Like I said, R18 works good, so I really have no clue as to why R19 lags so much all of a sudden. Would anybody know what could be causing the issue?

Thank you

Hi gyefet,

Please contact the support:
https://www.maxon.net/en-us/support/how-can-we-help/

We’re not supposed to get into technical problems here.

One little idea, if you go to the Material Editor>Editor>Texture Preview Size, will the speed change with certain settings?

My best wishes

You’re very welcome, gyefet, I hope they will get you up to speed ASAP.

At the least the preview size exploration is one more information to share.

BTW, I have worked lately often with 29K pixel wide 16bit PSB files, and after the loading (often 7GB+ layered) I did not felt an unexpected delay)

Thanks for your patience!

All the best

Hi gyefet,
Do you have the Texture Manager open/docked anywhere? I experienced severe slowdowns until I figured that was the problem. To be fair that was in R18, but it may still be an issue in R19. Worth checking anyway.

Hi pcoombes,

Thanks for your help. The Texture Manager is not open. It’s the Startup/Standard layout with all regular pallets.

The only thing I could think of that is different about my system is a recent (forced) update by Windows 10. Maybe that could be causing the issues..I don’t know.
